A charitable hospital adding a G+3 wing while the old block kept running. We engineered a calm, vibration-free structure that never disturbed patient care.
The challenge
Mira’s new wing had to rise six metres from a working casualty ward — vibration, dust and drainage all threatened daily operations. The old drawings were missing, and five consultants proposed five different structural schemes.
The trust needed one coordinated system: a quiet-framed structure, rerouted services, and approval drawings a public authority would accept.

Clinical calm, engineered in.
Flat-slab floors with drop panels keep the wards crack-free and quiet, while a separate construction access and dewatering plan protected the old block. The services model mirrors the structural grid exactly, so ducts and beams never fight on site. A 30-page execution note covers sequence — critical beside a live hospital — alongside structural rules.
Open beds, zero shutdowns.
The wing topped out without a single day of ward closure. The trust’s committee cleared the expansion within a quarter, and the in-house team maintains services from the issued coordination drawings.
